Tuesday!

On our way to Leeds!

Leeds Me to Battle...

Leeds was an extravagant city. The Lush was abundant and cheap and I tried Costa coffee (and regular coffee for that matter) for the first time. We also looked around at different clothing stores and found the mother of all clothes: the jorteralls (jean short overalls). But sadly there wasn’t enough time to buy them.

In Leeds we also took a backstage tour of the Yorkshire playhouse which was super interesting. Unlike a lot of theaters I have scene in the USA, the Yorkshire playhouse had two stages: a smaller theater that could be converted into many different configurations for smaller pieces, and a larger stage that had a beautiful, abstract boat set piece that could rotate. After seeing the green room, huge set building room, costume rooms, and dressing rooms, we had a talk back with two of the resident actors and one of the directors. I was surprised that this theater company had resident actors that work in the theater for a year on multiple productions. They talked about the theaters community service initiative for refugees which was very interesting. All in all the experience revitalized my love of the arts (and humanity in general).

At the end of the day, we had lunch and toured the Royal Armories. As you can see in the picture below, there were a ton of metal gear ranging from swords to guns. The museum had armor, shields, crossbows, and even traditional fans from various eras and regions. Our group divided and conquered the museum. Some of us in all the day  was very fun and informative.
